May 2009. This $6.5 million exhibit opened on May 1st, 2009, and is 17,000 sq. ft. in size. There are approximately 8 viewing windows, and it is one of the largest penguin enclosures in North America.

      Looks great S. An aerial picture would be great. With all thoose viewing spots it's really hard to get a picture of how big the enclosure is. 17,000 sq feet means little to me.

      17,000 sq ft is a little over 1/4 of an acre

      Okay that helps. Out of interest 17,000 would be referanceing the whole exhibit area. Not just the visable public viewed area that the penguins are in?

      17,000 sq. ft. must be the entire area, as a quarter of an acre is massive for penguins. The visitor pathway is long and winding around the exhibit, with 8 underwater viewing windows and many vantage points for watching the birds. I agree that an aerial photo would be helpful.
