I'd love to know how to actually identify these.

@ThylacineAlive Here are the differences, according to my field guide:

      • American Crows are a bit larger. This can only be used when both species are present.
      • Fish Crows' bills are slightly more slender (slenderer?)
      • Fish Crows often perch on wires, American almost never do.
      • Fish and American have different caws. Note that a fledgling American Crow begging is almost identical to a Fish Crow.

Overall the differences in their voice is the best way to identify them in the field.
    • Great Argus
      • "Fish Crows often perch on wires, American almost never do."
I'd be interested to see the studies for that.
