I saw loads of these 'Insect Hotels' when I was traveling through Germany, Belgium, France (one night) and the Netherlands in 2019. These insect homes are clearly very popular and extremely common in western Europe, but in North American zoos they are a great rarity.

@snowleopard You are right that they are common in western Europe, not just at zoos as they are also regularly seen in public parks, in areas managed by nature organizations and in school gardens. They are kind of a go-to to do something for biodiversity that is relatively easy, cheap and visually attractive, and also provides educational opportunities. In non-pandemic times constructing insect hotels is also something that is sometimes done as part of nature-related events and trainings. That said, some care has to be put in to make these insect hotels actually useful for insects. But information on how to make them can be found relatively easily.
