Jessie, Moore Park, ~1880's

From Taronga Zoo Guide Book, 1980. The caption reads: "The well loved elephant Jessie in Moore Park. Jessie arrived in Sydney in 1883, a gift from the King of Siam, and over a period of 56 years gave rides to over 2 million people. She was an intelligent and gentle lady but punished people who teased her and had a habit of stealing and eating handbags."
