Lovely exhibit. Are there free-roaming animals in this area?
    • JerseyLotte
There's 15 or so species, lets see how many I can remember!!!

      Nicobar pigeon
      Emerald dove
      Minandao bleeding heart dove
      Palawan peacock pheasant
      Red tailed laughing thrush
      Blue crowned laughing thrush
      Chestnut backed thrush
      Hooded pitta
      Java sparrow
      Pekin robin
      Asian fairy bluebird
      White rumped shama

:D It's a lovely place to while away my lunchtime, especially since one of the Red tailed laughing thrush (my favourite species in there!) was handreared I think, sees my uniform and comes to hang out and plead with me :D so adorable...

So it's a southeast Asian aviary basically? Very nice.
    • Hix
That looks like a well-established rainforest - how old is the exhibit?
    • JerseyLotte
Yes! A south east asian exhibit would be an apt way to describe it... Don't think I had my thinking cap on that day or I might have said that eh!!! :D

The exhibit was opened in 2004 and was constructed by our own maintenance and landscaping departments :)

      Lotte,

You know the size of this aviary?
    • JerseyLotte
Couldn't even guess Eduardo! It would probably take a minute to walk straight through, but I spend many a lunch hour in there just watching in peace :)

It's not small but it's certainly not huge! :)

      Thanks.

      Nice pictures from Durrell!
    • JerseyLotte
Many new ones coming up! :D
    • European Fauna
I have noticed that many herp keepers have a considerable interest in birds, although the reverse seems less often true.Is this a fair observation?
