JyllandsAkvariet - Agility course

JyllandsAkvariet - Agility course

This may look like an old junkyard, but it's actually an agility course for dogs (bringing your dog into the aquarium is allowed, and the course can only be accessed after paying entry to the aquarium) built with all sorts of harbor scrap parts and driftwood. I don't know if it works properly as an agility course, but if it does, it would be a good example of how an institution with a very low budget can use their limited means in an interesting and creative way.

JyllandsAkvariet is one of several small Danish coast aquaria dotted all around the country, but with a particularly high concentration at the Jutlandic west coast. This one is located in the small fishing village of Thyborøn near the harbor.

JyllandsAkvariet is not a huge attraction worth traveling hours for, but it's a cosy little place that's a worth a visit if you are in the general area, and with its nice maritime theming it is, in my opinion, one of the best small aquaria in Denmark. Most of the collection consists of fish and invertebrates from the Jutlandic west coast, but there is also a small exhibition on exotic freshwater fish with special abilities and adaptations, such as electric eel and archerfish.

      July 2016.
