La Vallée des Singes - Chimpanzees island
La Vallée des Singes, situated in Romagne, near Poitiers, is the second primate-park in Europe. This institution, situated in a 15 hectares forest, opened in july 1998 on the exemple of Apenheul (The Netherlands.) Today, it is home to 350 monkeys (30 different species) living in large island or walk-through exhibits. The photo shows the chimpanzee island. Here, no fake rock or other artificial objectfs for the visitor, just a big exhibit (6000 m² = 1,5 acres) opened in 2004. 10 chimpanzees, born in a laboratory, live here and have one of the best enclosure of Europe for the specie, with grass, high trees... September 2007.
