Lion Country Safari is famous for being one of Americas first Drive-Through Safari Parks, and first “Cageless Zoos” where the people are confined to their cars, while the animals roam free around you!

The park has been around for 54 years, and will likely continue for many more!

but what if the park was given an expansion, and could broaden its horizons even further then before?

In this series, I want to explore a reimagining of the park, keeping the base idea, but taking it to the next level!

We begin our tour with the flagship attraction, the Drive-Through Safari! Unlike how the park I set up now, with multiple areas featuring different animals, this section of the park is made up of mostly one area. The herbivorous animals are free to roam as they please across a 450 acre Free-Roam area!

the path that visitors drive down is a simple dirt path, but has multiple areas where visitors can park their cars and just watch the animals.

The roster for free-roam area (A.) includes

      -Aardvark
      -African Elephant
      -Aardwolf
      -Hartmann's Mountain Zebra
      -Southern White Rhinoceros
      -Common Warthog
      -Hippopotamus
      -Angolan Giraffe
      -Red Hartebeest
      -Blue Wildebeest
      -Springbok
      -African Buffalo
      -Common Eland
      -Greater Kudu
      -Sable Antelope
      -Gemsbok
      -Impala
      -Waterbuck
      -Lechwe
      -South African Ostrich

The large herbivores, having a large amount of space, can be on complete other ends of the park, and also have private, off-display areas that they can go to. The smaller herbivores have safe areas, small fenced-off areas, that they can hide in.

aside from herbivores, there are five area for large carnivores, these are separated from herbivores using rocky moats, water, and fences.

      these areas, I’m order are

      B. Lions
      -African Lion

this are can be driven through, and you can park to observe the Lion Pride that lives here, so long as you keep you’re windows up. But remember, your body is your responsibility, if you roll down your windows, and the lions attack, you only have yourself to blame.

      C. Hyenas
      -Spotted Hyena

this area can also be driven through as well, and once again, your body is your responsibility. A clan of Hyenas live here, and contrary to popular beliefs, these are active predators, that live in matriarchal society’s!

      D. Wild Dogs
      -African Wild Dogs

This area is one you drive around, rather then through. The wild dogs will often lay in large “Dogpiles”, so be on the lookout for those!

      E. Cheetahs
      -South African Cheetah

The cheetahs can be seen across from a large pond. Theres is an area where you can sit and watch for them, or you may catch a glimpse of them as you drive past!

      And F. Leopard Island
      -African Leopard

the leopards live on a large island, and you can sit and watch for them in special areas. The leopards are most active at dusk and dawn!

All animals that live here reside in the country of Nambia in Southwest Africa, the region this park is based upon!

      stay tuned for part 2!
