The third part of my submission on Ecuador for the thread "Make an Exhibit for that Country". This part focuses on the coastal and lowland wetland and forest habitats of Eastern mainland Ecuador. A legend for the numbers can be found below, a full discussion in the thread.

      1 – Coastal walk-through aviary
      Aviary with rock walls, rock and cliff structures, sandy and rocky beaches, mudflat areas, shallow and deep pools, rocky islands and nesting cavities and area​
      • Humboldt penguin (Spheniscus humboldti)

      • Guanay cormorant (Phalacrocorax bougainvillii)
      • Nazca booby (Sula granti)
      • Hudsonian whimbrel (Numenius hudsonicus)

      1A – Greenhouse with coastal aviary indoor exhibits, similar in structure to the outdoor exhibit
      1B – Off-show separation and breeding aviaries ​

      2 – Wetland walk-through aviary
      Aviary with creeks, pools, islands and muddy areas, grassy floor, vegetation of marsh plants, shrubs and trees, winding crushed stone pathways with wood and metal bridges over creeks, feeding areas with stainless steel feeding trays under wood and thatched roof structures
      Indoor housing in a thatched roof wooden barn, indoor viewing into two indoor rooms through windows ​

      3 – Forest edge walk-through aviary
      Aviary with grass and mulch floors, live trees and shrubs, two pools, dead trees with feeding platforms and enrichment made from natural materials for the parrots and winding mulch pathway
      Indoor housing in tall building with triangular roof, built from natural materials, indoor view through windows​
      • El Oro parakeet (Pyrrhura orcesi)
      • Lilacine amazon (Amazona lilacina)
      • Great curassow (Crax rubra)
      • Black-bellied whistling duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis)
      4 – Collared peccary (Pecari tajacu)
      Paddock with grassy, sandy and mulch areas, water pool and mud pool and a zone with trees with protected root zones, separation paddock, indoor housing in wood-finished barn​

      5 – Ecuadorian white-fronted capuchin (Cebus aequatorialis)
      Series of three grassy islands with live shrubs and trees and natural material climbing structures, connected via log bridges at height
      Indoor housing in wood-finished barn with skylights housing several on-show and off-show indoor rooms

      The capuchins will also have access to the trees in the peccary paddock via log bridges, where all materials interesting to them will be in the trees to discourage them from climbing down, although they will be able to do so, and the peccary paddock will be secured against them escaping from it also.​

      6 – Sechura fox (Lycalopex sechurae)
      Exhibit with short and tall grass and sandy areas, scattered trees and shrubs, artificial dens, a sandy hill allowing for natural den digging and a rock building with a green/living roof built into the structure and landscape of the exhibit, housing indoor dens​

      7 – Cat Cave
      Three sets of two tall small cat exhibits with live trees and shrubs, natural logs and wooden platforms for climbing and resting, wooden shelters, small pools and a rocky area where the cave building with the indoor dens is built into the structure of the exhibit
      7A – Ocelot (Leopardus pardalis)
      7B – Margay (Leopardus wiedii)
      7C – Jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi)
      7D – Cave/rock building with indoor cat dens and a small viewing area​

      8 – Bird house
      Hacienda-style building with forest-based indoor and outdoor aviaries with grass, sand and mulch floors, live shrubs, small trees and dead trees and branches, natural enrichment materials, wooden feeding platforms and logs and wooden boxes or platforms for nesting and shelter
      The building will have a paved indoor viewing area that will allow viewing of the main indoor aviaries​

      8A – Pacific or Celestial parrotlet (Forpus coelestis) - Wild green form and blue, American yellow and grey mutations, pairs housed in separate aviaries
      8B – Rufous motmot (Baryphthengus martii)
      8C – Cherry-headed conure (Psittacara erythrogenys)
      8D –Chestnut-fronted macaw/Severe macaw (Ara severus)
      8E – Choco toucan (Ramphastos brevis) and Baudo guan (Penelope ortoni)
      8F – Great green macaw/Buffon’s macaw (Ara ambiguus) and Rufous-headed chachalaca (Ortalis erythroptera)
      8G – Long-wattled umbrellabird (Cephalopterus penduliger)
      8H – Grey-cheeked parakeet (Brotogeris pyrrhoptera)
      8I – Banded ground cuckoo (Neomorphus radiolosus)
      8J – Black-tipped cotinga/White cotinga (Carpodectes hopkei)
      8K – Orange-fronted barbet (Capito squamatus)
      8L – Guayaquil woodpecker (Campephilus gayaquilensis)
      8M – Guayaquil squirrel (Sciurus stramineus)​

      9 – Vivarium building
      Moist forest and forest creek bank based vivariums; screens with environmental parameters will be included as part of education ​

      10A – Black-and-white hawk eagle (Spizaetus melanoleucus)
      10B – Grey-backed hawk (Pseudastur occidentalis)
      10C – Plumbeous kite (Ictinia plumbea)
      10D – Double-toothed kite (Harpagus bidentatus)
      10E – Mangrove black hawk (Buteogallus anthracinus subtilis)
      10F – Ornate hawk eagle (Spizaetus ornatus)
      10G – Collared forest falcon (Micrastur semitorquatus)
      10H – Aviary for young raptors
      10I – Raptor nursery building​

      11 – Bay-headed tanager (Tangara gyrola), Orange-crowned Euphonia (Euphonia saturata) and Pale-browed tinamou (Crypturellus transfasciatus)
      Small forest edge aviary with live shrubs, dead branches, a small pool and small rock structures, indoor housing in a small wooden barn with branches, live plants, skylights and viewing window​

      12 – Sabine’s gull (Xema sabini)
      Small coastal aviary with rock/cliff walls, pool, rocky islands and waterfall, indoor housing in a small rock structure​
