Male and female gharial

A pair of gharial on the only patch of sand in their enclosure. The dramatic theming is neatly finished off with a length of piping.

Was the pool very deep in this exhibit?

Are they real gharials or false gharials?
    • Sun Wukong
These two appear to be Indian Gharials (Gavialis gangeticus).

They are real gharials as Sun Wukong correctly identified.

Difficult to comment on the depth of the pool. It was circular, I would hazard a guess at 20ft in diameter, with sloping brick sides around three quarters of the perimeter. The sides sloped quite steeply so the pool could have been reasonably deep.
