@carlos55 very interesting! To be honest, I didn't know that there were still any Mexican prairie dogs (Cynomys mexicanus) in captivity... What is the backstory on these animals? How were the founder stock sourced? I do remember Brookfield Zoo used to have them, and knowing that you lived in Chicago in the 1980s, I am curious did you ever see them there? As you may have seen, the photograph I posted of a taxidermed specimen at the World Museum of Natural History in Riverside, Riverside County, California was of an animal that lived at the Brookfield Zoo.

I never saw the mexican prarie dogs at Brookfield zoo. The prarie dogs at Africam Safari Puebla are from the Museo del Desierto at Saltillo, Coahuila, México which has a large breeding colony.

@carlos55 that is very interesting! Knowing that they are endangered, are they trying to start a captive breeding program for them? If so, how has that been going for them? How long have they been keeping the species?
