One of those "working" shots that are always a pleasure to see here.I refer to photos taken from a perspective not usually seen by a zoo visitor , depicting husbandry elemeents such as transfer areas etc.Nice colours also. All in all, an unusual shot to be appreciated especially by a true zoo fan.

This IS a visitor view - I've taken similar shots myself! (without the snow though!) The tunnels run between various parts of the exhibit.

Thanks Maguari & zoogiraffe for the Northern Viscachas pics. Do you happen to have any pictures showing the general exhibit in an overview?
    • zoogiraffe
Sorry I don't but on a sad note this species is no longer kept now at the collection!
    • Batto
Thanks. And what a shame! That means Schönebeck is the last zoo in Europe keeping the species...:(
    • Animal
They are the same animals. The last three males went from Hamerton to Schönebeck.

As I told you in Berlin, the three males that went to Schönebeck were *not* the last of the Hamerton stock, as Schönebeck were sent the animals in question in 2012, whilst Hamerton still had two or three individuals in July 2013 as evidenced by the following photograph I just uploaded:

As the species *is* now gone from the collection, it does not matter all that much any more of course.

I wonder where Hamerton got them from in the first place. Never met a private keeper/breeder of the species in Europe...
