mygalomorph spider (tarantula)
In burrows in a roadside clay bank at Bukit Fraser, a hill station a couple of hours outside Kuala Lumpur. This photo was taken at night and I used a long twig to tickle at the entrance so the spider rushed out to see if it was prey. The first time it retreated immediately, the second time it stayed out so I could get some photos. At the time I estimated the size of the spider as being ?if you hold out your first two fingers next to each other, the first two joints would be about the length and breadth of the body?. However I think it must have been quite a bit larger than that looking at the photos.
