Jim and Dr Alison Cronin first found Naree in a Thai circus in 2003, where she was made to pull an orangutan and a tiger around the ring in a rickshaw. In 2005, after a campaign by Monkey World, she was seized by Thai authorities and moved to a Thai government wildlife centre, which is when Monkey World lost contact with her; it was thought that she may have disappeared or died. However, in 2017 Monkey World was approached out of the blue by the wildlife centre and asked if they would rehome Naree. She had been living in isolation at the wildlife centre.

Naree arrived at Monkey World on October 8th, 2018. Her facial deformities, first seen by Jim and Dr Alison in 2003, are due to the trauma of having nearly all of her teeth knocked out as well as the subsequent infection and abnormal bone regrowth. She is thought to have been taken directly from the wild and born somewhere around 1985.

      Long live Monkey World!
