Nile Soft-shelled Turtle Chester Zoo 1 August 1981

This male Nile Soft-shelled Turtle (Trionyx triunguis) illustrates a problem with open exhibits. Visitors thought it was great fun to cover his back with coins. This enclosure now houses the Galapagos Tortoises.

Do any zoos keep the species?

They are so unusual...

ISIS shows 3.3.11 including 1.1.10 in Europe. The Chester male was a huge specimen.

I remember that pool with a Matamata turtle in, when I first visited Chester.

Didn't this pool also keep the dwarf crocodiles before they moved to the alligator pool?
