Open Ocean Tank at Lisbon Oceanarium, 25/05/11
Probably the best single aquarium tank I've seen. Absolutely enormous, and with a list of species to make any aquarium proud. A few examples: Sharks - including Sand Tiger, Sandbar, White-tipped Reef, Zebra Rays - Devil Ray (Mobula mobular) and several species of eagle and sting ray, as well as a large Bowmouth Guitarfish Bony Fish - Ocean Sunfish, Barracuda, large shoalers including Tuna, many large groupers and jacks... Quite simply a stunning tank, the sheer scale of which is impressive. The other four largest tanks -the ones under the themed glasshouses - the auks (Atlantic), penguins (Antarctic), sea otters (Pacific) and tropical area (Indian) - all have large windows allowing views through the smaller tanks into this main one, reflecting the way all coastal ecosystems are ultimately joined together by open ocean. Wonderful exhibit.
