      More than 20 years on I still can't believe they displayed lions in this tiny cage as late as the 80's.

      And how easy would it be for someone to climb the fence and lose their fingers or a hand?

      I remmber these. Just horrible!! By memory there was a row of these maybe 6 similiar enclosres foe big cats.

      It's great that the Philadelphia Zoo has come a long way with its carnivores, as the zoo fairly recently won the AZA Best Exhibit award for Big Cat Falls. The new, lush, naturalistic big cat enclosures are seemingly in a different dimension than the older, outdated exhibits.
