Owl-faced monkey (Cercopithecus hamlyni) - male Argus Pair of these monkeys arrived from Edinburgh Zoo this week.
They were indeed; the male arrived at Edinburgh from Twycross at the back end of 2011 and joined the adult female and daughter already present at the collection - the prior adult male having died shortly prior. The younger female then left the collection in early 2012 - not sure where she went - and then the remaining 1,1 departed Edinburgh in October 2012. This left Edinburgh - and the UK - without the species, which only a decade before had been at several collections. A shame. I took this photo of the male at Edinburgh in January 2012.
Good to hear that there are still occasional births for the species in Europe. Still doomed in European captivity mind you......
