Currently there is some debate over whether Leopardus colocola should be divided into separate species or subspecies. Currently the Cat Specialist Group has them listed as the single species Leopardus colocola, consisting of 7 quite distinct subspecies. My best guess is that it is L. c. garleppi based off of the descriptions of subspecies distribution I could find, I couldnt find any. On first glance it is very similar to the endangered Andean Mountain Cat (Leopardus jacobita), however jacobita appears much more compact in stature with a flat head, longer fur, and a bushy tail:[IMG]
