Papiliorama - Jungle Trek (Jungle pool)

The jungle pool inside Jungle Trek in the Papiliorama. Jungle Trek is a dome-shaped tropical house 40 meters in diameter and 18 meters tall. It was opened in 2008 and was a major expansion of the Papiliorama. Jungle Trek is meant to be “a little piece of Shipstern”, the nature reserve in Belize that the Papiliorama Foundation manages in situ, and shows wildlife from that region. This tropical house sports an impressive list of free-ranging species: Mammals - Seba’s short-tailed bat (Carollia perspicillata) Birds - Great curassow (Crax rubra) - Roseate spoonbill (Ajaia ajaja) - Green jay (Cyanocorax yncas) - Tropical mockingbird (Mimus gilvus gilvus) - Blue-crowned motmot (Momotus momota) - Northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) - White-winged dove (Zenaida asiatica) - Common ground-dove (Columbina passerina) - Blue ground-dove (Claravis pretiosa) - White-fronted dove (Leptotila verreauxi) - Caribbean dove (Leptotila jamaicensis) - Green-backed heron (Butorides striata) - Grey-necked wood-rail (Aramides cajanea) - Blue-winged teal (Anas discors) Reptiles - Common green iguana (Iguana iguana) - Green basilisk (Basiliscus plumifrons) - Brown basilisk (Basiliscus vittatus) - Common spiny-tailed iguana (Ctenosaura similis) Papiliorama, July 2010.

This tropical house sports an impressive list of free-ranging species:

      That's an impressive species list!

I like Papiliorama from what I've seen from your pictures. It al looks green and light and all the round forms make it look very nice!

      Thanks for all those pictures

The species list for the Jungle Trek Dome is indeed impressive but generally I would say that it is the weakest link of the chain in the Papiliorama. The Papiliorama Hall is a beautiful exhibition and the Nocturama is a unique and highly interesting experience.

However, the Jungle Trek lacks the innovative experience that the other two domes have and looks strangely worn-down considering it just opened in 2008. I must admit I was a bit disappointed with the Jungle Trek but the Papiliorama as a whole is still well worth visiting.
