      When was this?

I don’t know the details of this particular photo but I saw monkey-eating eagle several times at Plankendael during the 1980s. On some of my later visits it was rather disappointing to see the ubiquitous snowy owl in the aviary that had once housed this rare eagle species. (I’ll never get used to calling this species Philippine eagle - they'll always be monkey-eating eagle to me.)

I’ve only seen monkey-eating eagle in few collections and, sadly, it is many years since I last saw one; Plankendael was the last place where I saw this species.

Well you can call yourself lucky though, chances are high I'll never see this amazing species.
