An excellent photo of a taxon I have never actually seen an image of before :D which is always a nice surprise for a small carnivore enthusiast such as myself. To be exact, this is the Visayan leopard cat, as there are two subspecies native to the Philippines, the other being the Palawan leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis heaneyi)

One of the immediate things I notice is that although a member of Prionailurus bengalensis, this animal has several morphological similarities to Prionailurus planiceps, the Flatheaded Cat, suggesting - to me, at least - some level of convergence.
    • Dicerorhinus
I'm fortunate enough to have seen this sub-species only a few weeks after having seen flat-headed cats at kuala lumpur. I don't think I'd agree with that.

Unfortunatelly I haven't see leopard cat on Palawan and I am not a small carnivores specialist, but as for me, these cats looks like other leopard cats from SEA region. But thank you for information!

      Interesting.
      On www.Zootierliste.de
are very convincing facts that 2 couples of these carnivore subspecies of
Prionailurus bengalensis heaneyi or palawan leopard cat. And there
informed that the couples palawan leopard cats they came from Avilon Zoo,
      Philippines. Seen:
      www.Zootierliste.de
Now this young couples is in the background Berlin (Tierpark Friedrichsfelde) Zoo.

And the interesting thing is also that of Avilon Zoo, there is not a single image of species Prionailurus bengalensis. If you already.Because, perhaps we could convince, that would be just about the palawan subspecies. And that's the way of it all actually mean. If you have this frugal knowledge nevertheless escaped not your attention. That's why I'm asking? Why is still not appear on this website photo of species Prionailurus bengalensis and just from Avilon Zoo, Philippines?
I would really like to know that why?

How else, would make it possible to explain that all of a sudden this subspecies are currently finds itself in background Berlin (Tierpark Friedrichsfelde) Zoo.
Not to mention that relatively early, in February 2013!
      As it states: www.Zootierliste.de

Matter of fact I would like to know, what exactly it is actually.

And just because you raise the question, has Avilon Zoo subspecies
of Prionailurus bengalensis heaneyi? Sure, now you know it does.

Then I ask, why has not occurred at all picture of palawan leopard cat Avilon Zoo, Philippines? Certainly Avilon Zoo keeps us that she kept behind the scenes. And I think
that's probably not far from the truth.

This is the only possible explanation is that since February 2013 this subspecies is in the
care of one of the European zoo. I've been here, obviously mentioned.
And otherwise, I do not think that would www.Zootierliste.de not interested in the truth.
For the matter of fact this is one of their zoological institution. After all it.

There is no exhibit with leopard cats in Avilon zoo, so, probably, they keep them behind the scene. As for Berlin TP cats, I have a good pictures of these animals and I can say for sure, they don't looks like some other leopard cats I saw on Philippines.
    • TeaLovingDave
Until February 2013, Berlin TP kept the Indochinese subspecies - then when they acquirred the Palawan subspecies I believe their previous leopard cats were sent to a private collection - ending over 50 years of this subspecies having been held and bred at Tierpark.

The bengal cat is a tradition species in livestock the Tierpark Berlin. The first representative of this southeast asian small cat species met in 1961 from the Hanoi Zoo and since 1964 the indian bengal cat. Behind reproduced successfully and continuously at the Tierpark Berlin. However, after last year, the last breeding pair due to old age and died in Europe only a few bengals cat known subspecies affiliation be kept in zoos, the Berlin Zoo decided to import bengals cats of the Philippines. On the islands of the Philippines is home to two subspecies of the leopard cat, which occur only there. Met after a long time of searching and preparation on 8 February 2013 safely four palawan bengals cats (Prionailurus bengalensis heaneyi) from the Philippine Avilon Zoo in Berlin. These are two young couples who were born in the zoo Avilon.
The palawan bengal cat lives exclusively on the western Philippine island of Palawan, and on some islands. The stock situation of this subspecies in the wild is unknown, but it can be assumed that the stock is similar to other Philippine species is declining. In zoos outside of the Philippines, this subspecies of our knowledge is not currently being maintained. The aim is, therefore, with these two pairs to establish a conservation breeding, future offspring to others, the attitude of these endangered small cat species interested zoos and thus build up a reserve stock outside of the Philippines....

      And I add:
Recent reviewed in 1997 by Groves, of the Philippine subspecies pointed out that the Philippines have two distinct subspecies named.:
      P. b. rabori , are light tan in color and found in Negros, Cebu, and Panay.
And p.b.heaneyi are dull gray in color and found in Palawan.
Both subspecies have small oval and round spotting without any rosetting.
These subspecies are the smallest of its race (adults in captivity weighs
only about 1.4 to 1.9 kg or about 3.1 to 4.2 pounds).

Research has never been done on this subspecies prior to 2005, when, in July 2005, an ethnobiological survey was started in the known range of the p.b.rabori and results show that this Philippine subspecies has been extirpated from at least 80% of its former range, with loss of forest cover, except possibly in Negros Occidental, where p.b.rabori seemingly thrive in sugarcane farms.
