Pied-billed grebe
Having seen the near-total lack of wildlife pictures from Costa Rica, I decided to upload some of my own. Lake Arenal lies at the foot of the Arenal volcano, and is the largest lake in Costa Rica. It is largely man made as part of a hydroelectric project. This sighting was surprisingly exciting. Our guide, who has lived his entire life in the country had never seen this species before, and the Costa Rican bird guide that accompanyed me described this species as a rare vagrant.
