Looking through these galleries, Polar Bears as a species have THE worst enclosures...
    • Kwambeze
Do they still use this exbith? I hate it...

No, Artis no longer keeps polar bears. The last one was sent to Rotterdam this year. When I visited in the summer 2008 this exhibit housed nutria while their exhibit was being renovated.

I went there for the first time in 1999; by which time the exhibit housed a VERY large male and a rather small female. I returned in 2002 to find only the female in the exhibit and assumed that the male was dead by then, but the one in the foreground seems to be rather large so I wonder if that's him and that they were together until so very recently?

I visited there recently and the pit is used for Mandrills now.

Isn't Artis going to build a new Polar Bear exhibit? Or is that wrong/outdated information that I have.

It's still a nice pic Al.

@Baldur, that's right but at the moment they are renovating the monkey and the birdhouse and some more bird enclosures, so enough to do. So in a few years they will built it, I think.

Is this foto from 2006, or is it older?

In 2006 lives one Bear in Artis. a female named Tania. In 2004 there was two Bears in Artis.
