Primates - Sumatran Orangutan Exhibit

If this photo was taken 30 years ago then the sumatran orangutan exhibit would be considered state-of-the-art and would compel zoo fans to travel far and wide to see the latest in outstanding exhibitry. However, these days concrete walls and wooden posts make for a below average enclosure that pales in comparison to many others for apes. This enclosure is far from dreadful, and is in fact probably close to average in the minds of many, but it is still underwhelming and outdated in my humble opinion. Thankfully the zoo has tentative plans to renovate/demolish their gorilla enclosure, and it is a pity that this orang exhibit is not also on the list for a future overhaul.

Although they are calling it Gorilla Forest, I looked again at the drawing of their plan and it does include renovating the orangutan exhibit to about 3 times its current size. They show a netted structure over the whole thing, as well as netted structures over the gorilla exhibits, so perhaps they intend to display mixed species of primates inside, which I enjoy seeing.
