Pygmy hippo underwater view

The tropical forest building includes a room with amphitheater seating for watching the pygmy hippo underwater. The hippo window is fronted by a large aquarium with cichlid species. It was cool watching the hippo glide along underwater. San Diego and Omaha are the only other zoos in North America with underwater viewing for pygmy hippos that I know of.

@DavidBrown This is old media, but Pittsburgh Zoo recently opened up a new pygmy hippo exhibit with underwater viewing

So the Cichlids live in a separated aquarium and not inside the hippo pool? Thank you in advance.
    • DavidBrown
@Orycteropus You are correct. The cichlids are in a separate aquarium in front of the hippo pool.

The same kind of set up is at the LA Zoo's rain forest exhibit where there is an aquarium for piranha and other Amazonian fish species in front of the main underwater viewing window for the giant otters.
