      I'm not 100% sure but I do believe it's a Kulan.

      Apologies for digressing slightly from the main topic of this photo, but while on the subject of wild asses at Catskill:-

      I only visited Catskill once, many years ago, in 1984. In those days the collection included so-called Nubian wild ass (although I’m sure they were not pure bred); I believe that the founder stock for these came from Munich Zoo. Does anybody know if any descendants of these Catskill animals survived and, if so, where they are?

      This is slightly off topic and might come across as a dumb question but what is the exact difference between a Kulan and an Onager ?
