Once upon a time this exhibit housed golden monkeys for a few years, the first ones ever in the western hemisphere. This came out of an agreement for San Diego and the Chengdu Zoo in China to become sister zoos and helped carve the great relationship between the zoo and China that led to many Chinese species coming to the zoo.

At least one pair went on tour. They were at the Minnesota Zoo in 1987.
