@baboon Do you know what the status is of these tigers is in captivity? I know that several zoos in China have them (maybe breeding centers?) but I am curious as to the numbers.

Also are they all purebred or has there been mixing with other subspecies?

@Coelacanth18 The total number of South China tigers in zoos exceeds 100, but are descendants of only six individuals, and recent genetic analysis shows that some of the founders are actually Indo-Chinese tigers, because nobody knew the dividing line of South China tiger and Indo-Chinese tiger during that time. Chongqing Zoo, along with Guiyang Zoo, used to have the most pure-bred south China tigers, but Guiyang Zoo lost its tigers now, and Chongqing Zoo took part in the countrywide coordinate breeding program to reduce the inbreeding, thus their tigers maybe also not pure-bred now.

@baboon What happened to Guiyang's tigers?
    • baboon
@FunkyGibbon They were sent to other zoos due to the financial problem of this zoo.
