speckled rattlesnake

July 19, 2016. Lightest coloration I have seen. There are two in this exhibit and both have the same light color. A second exhibit houses a more mid toned specimen.

      Is this guy/girl leucistic?

Looks like a typical C. m. pyrrhus to me..

      I do agree.

I do not believe so, though it does look that way. The signage said that speckled rattlesnakes vary greatly in their coloration, depending on the color of the rocks in their surrounding area.

I can assure you that this is not a leucistic specimen. Crotalus mitchelli pyrrhus shows various color variations, often in direct correlation with their habitat. While this animal seems to stand out, it is perfectly camouflaged in its habitat of white granite rocks in Arizona.
