      Anjalee was born at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka. Her name means “gracious gift.”

      Anjalee is the only Sri Lankan elephant in Australasia.

      @Elephantelephant Sadly there has been no further attempts since the two in 2017/2018. Since they’ve also given up on trying to get Nandi over here, I’m wondering if they will acquire Perth Zoo’s younger female elephant when they look to export her upon the death of their elderly female. This would give Auckland Zoo a non breeding herd of three cows (which is the capacity of the exhibit).
