I don't get this "aesthetics" argument. The fencing is a way of containing the animals, and if it were replaced by a wall it would be called ugly, and if replaced by a mock rock wall it would be called ugly and un-natural. I'm all for it looking nice, but I don't think there's any problem with this enclosure.
The logs and that are scattered and probably moved around to give them a change in environment, and they wouldn't exactly be perfect looking in the wild.
Snowleopard: I agree about the Orang enclosure, but whats the problem with this enclosure? It's a good size with loads of enrichment items for the animals. I'd much rather see an enclosure like this than one like Gorilla kingdom which is quite naturalistic, but so, so boring for the animals.

I've just seen a pic of the Lion enclosure, and I think this is one hell of a lot better for the animals, as in it has more plants and enrichment.
I prefer the chainlink too, I prefer to see the trees through the fence as opposed a solid wall.

@ashley-h: there are indeed thousands of worse enclosures than this one for hyenas, and as many people have pointed out the Colchester orangutan exhibit is brutal. I still cannot believe that it is brand new!
