Subu and Leoni the African Lions in Lion Rock exhibit at Colchester Zoo, 13

One thing about Colchester's design I don't get is the concrete paths running through so many of the exhibits. Why are they there?

i must agree with you there because they're not fully creating a natural habitat for the animals

Maybe so the animals don't tread a path through the grass and look like they are pacing?
they can always wash the path clean if need be, but not the mud of a grass path.
