That sculpture was designed by a famous Canadian named Bill Reid, and the artwork has been the centrepiece of the aquarium for many years.
Just in case it's not clear, it's an Orca done in the traditional style of the local First Nations peoples.
Bill Reid is the not only the most famous caniadian artist, is also the most famous artist of the first nations. He is of the Haida ethnic group. His work is also displayed at the vancouver airport and at the university museum. The late french anthropologist Claude Levi strauss tried unsucessfully to buy all of ReidĀ“s work for france, but reid's work is considered a national treasure and rightly so.
