The story behind Tux

"Tux" is the official mascot of the Linux operating system. In 1996 Linus Torvalds visited the National Zoo and Aquarium with members of the Canberra Linux Users Group. Apparently he fell in love with the little Penguins and when they were later looking for a mascot for the Linux operating system, he suggested a penguin. They believe that the original Tux that Linus fell in love with still lives in the enclosure at the National Zoo and Aquarium.
