      these are lovely little animals. Its a pity they aren't more widespread in captive situations.

      I do think that the direccion general de zoologicos in Mexico City should send some rabbits to other collections outside of our city. The rabbits breed every year at chapultepec and los coyotes. The wild population is reduced but stable. They are very good exhibit animals, active in the mornings and evenings. Jersey, Los Angeles, various zoos could adequately keep them. It would also benefit the species if the entire world zoo population would not be reduced to 2 groups in the same city.

      Jersey tried that, more than once, and they eventually died out. It is very possible that they will only thrive at altitude.

      Hix, yes you may be correct, it is possible that the volcano rabbit´s very limited range would be related to the species adaption to very high altitudes.
