Vulture Aviary Renovation

The vulture aviary is under renovation. The tall tree-like poles are new and will be used to attach the mesh to make a taller exhibit. There will also be a new style of mesh applied as the vultures occasionally got their talons tangled up in the old mesh.

Are the poles supposed to look like pine snags? I see there's also a wile Gila Woodpecker in the photo.

@birdsandbats Looks more like a flicker to me, but could easily be either from what little field marks available.

The poles are supposed to be some kind of plant, not sure what. Maybe an agave (century plant) stalk?

And kudos for identifying a tiny speck of a bird that flew through. My guess is gila woodpecker, as they are common on the grounds and gilded flicker is quite rare here. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing one.
