Vulture aviary

The vulture aviary is found next to the pathway that leads from the big parking lot (across a big, busy street from Planckendael, connected to the park via a tunnel) to the entrance. This aviary as a "dating" spot for Cinereous vultures to choose a mate as well as for vulture research purposes.

Home to cinereous vultures (Aegypius monachus), griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus), Egyptian vultures (Neophron percnopterus), red-billed choughs (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) and short-eared owls (Asio flammeus).

The European Endangered Species Program (EEP) for the cinereous vulture is coordinated at Planckendael. This aviary serves as a "dating location" for these birds to select a mate. Planckendael no longer has a breeding pair of cinereous vultures on display as at least one partner of the old pair has died. In the past they hada second breeding pair behind the scenes, but I'm not sure that is still the case.
