Welsh Hawking Centre ( former Barry Zoo )

Aviary for a very nervous pair of Palm-nut vultures . At the rear is the front of the old Bear Cages , the blocked off area was formerly the bars on the front of one of two small cages housing pairs of Himalayan black and Russian brown bears .

      Blimey!

The aviary looks to be rather exposed with little to offer any privacy for the Vultures.
The pair I saw at the hawk Conservancy spent most of the day hiding behind some foliage but appeared happy and calm.

When I saw the birds first in 2009 I assumed they were so flighty because they were new arrivals . On my visit last week they were just the same . I agree that this aviary is not well-suited to them . They might be happier in one of the enclosed breeding aviaries .
