      I think it is a sandgrouse, but can't identify the species.

      This was in a date plantation at an oasis. There are a number of similar looking species shown in my middle east birds book that it could have been. I decided on grey francolin at the time but I am not happy with that for an identification.

      Probably Grey Francolin -- I'll look in the book later and post back if nobody beats me to it.

      Not a sandgrouse, looks like some kind of partridge/ francolin to me.
