@David Matos Mendes Yes. States are the ones who decide laws on for animal care usually, so people looking to start these kinds of zoos simply go to a state that has less strict laws.
This is why the U.S definitely has to change the laws on animal exhibitation, some of the zoos here could be considered the worst in the world, up there with some of those terrible zoos you’d find in places like India or China (no offense to anyone who lives there) this kind of exhibit shouldn’t be allowed anywhere and this is unexepytable exhibitry. You would never se something like this over in Europe.
@Dhole dude Agree with you... That's a very sad situation... And even some countries that already have laws determinating this kind of issues need some good improvements. For example, here in Brazil, the minimum size of a lion enclosure is 70m2. Such a terrible size actually...
@David Matos Mendes The USA is an extraordinary country in so many ways. I co-wrote an entire book about the great zoos of the nation, but at the same time I could easily write another book about how America has many of the absolute worst zoos in the world. There are still plenty of roadside zoos in the U.S. and it will be a very long time before they all disappear.
@snowleopard Yes, I could actually realize that in matter of zoos, the US is a big contrast, having some of the world's most wonderful institutions as well as some of the most awful ones...
