Wildbase Recovery is a rehabilitation centre for native NZ birds at the Victoria Esplanade Gardens in Palmerston North (in the lower North Island). Many species can be viewed here during their recovery (before release) and it also houses some permanent residents. It is free to visit.

This is their walk-through aviary, currently housing NZ Pigeon, North Island Kaka, NZ Bellbird, Red-crowned Kakariki, and Tuatara.

Do tuatara live free ranging in this aviary or contained in their own exhibit?
    • Chlidonias
@PAT the left side of the aviary (as in, the left side of the photo) has a sectioned-off area and the Tuatara are in that area - so they are contained within part of the aviary. At a guess it would probably be about a quarter of the aviary floor-space? Because it is winter none of them were out though.

@Chlidonias Thanks for that, I always appreciate smaller exhibits within walk through aviaries.
