There is effectively a captive breeding programme for Canis lupus italicus managed by the State Forestry Corps. Regrettably, zoos are not likely to be involved in conservation programmes for native taxa in Italy. Furthermore, the wolf population is incresing and about 2.000 individuals are believed to roam the country, so there is not need for a captive breeding programme.
