    83. Marsh Tit (Poecile palustris)
    84. Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita)

This morning I woke up early and set off for an impromptu Slimbridge outing:
    85. White-fronted Goose (Anser albifrons)
    86. Barnacle Goose (Branta leucopsis)
    87. Grey Heron (Ardea cinerea)
    88. Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus)
    89. Peregrine (Falco peregrinus)
    90. Water Rail (Rallus aquaticus)

    92. Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria)
    93. Ruff (Calidris pugnax)

I'm not entirely comfortable with counting the Great Crane Project birds, but they'll do until I get to Norfolk.

    Still no pheasant!

Made a trip to the Salton Sea yesterday with my local Audubon group. Before yesterday I had only been to the Salton Sea on two occasions, and both during the Summer. The first time with jbnbsn99 was an "okay" day as it wasn't terribly hot or smelly, but the second time it was around 115 degrees and the smell was worst than the first time. On the other hand, the high yesterday was around 75 degrees and no smell, making it a very pleasant day for birdwatching.

The highlights were hundreds of Sandhill Cranes, thousands of Ross' and Snow Geese, a Yellow-footed Gull, and a Roseate Spoonbill.

    109. Ross' Goose
    110. Lesser Scaup
    111. Bufflehead
    112. Gambel's Quail
    113. Horned Grebe
    114. Eared Grebe
    115. Brown Pelican
    116. American Bittern
    117. Cattle Egret
    118. Roseate Spoonbill
    119. Ridgway's Rail
    120. Sandhill Crane
    121. American Avocet
    122. Greater Yellowlegs
    123. Willet
    124. Lesser Yellowlegs
    125. Marbled Godwit

    135. Loggerhead Shrike
    136. Tree Swallow
    137. Marsh Wren
    138. Black-tailed Gnatcatcher
    139. Abert's Towhee

There have been at least 4-5 Lesser Flamingos living at the sea for the last 5-10 years and yesterday we saw one in the same place as the Roseate Spoonbill. For the purpose of this list I will count exotics as it gets me confused since Ebird includes them.

    140. Lesser Flamingo

I also forgot to include two more from earlier in the week.

    141. Mute Swan
    142. Indian Peafowl

Saw three new bird species yesterday:

    42. Fieldfare Turdus pilaris
    43. Little grebe Tachybaptus ruficollis
    44. Greylag goose Anser anser

And today, managed to go on my first trip to Abberton Reservoir this year. Unfortunately, I just happened to pick a day with high winds so the smew, Bewick's swans, scaup, black-necked grebe and bittern that have all been hanging around on the reservoir over the past week or so were absent (all apart from the bittern would have been lifers). Fortunately however, did manage to get a lot of new birds for the year list:

    45. Common gull Larus canus
    46. Northern lapwing Vanellus vanellus
    47. Common goldeneye Bucephala clangula
    48. Lesser black-backed gull Larus fuscus
    49. Stock dove Columba oenas
    50. Red-crested pochard Netta rufina
    51. Eurasian wigeon Anas penelope
    52. Goldcrest Regulus regulus
    53. Common teal Anas crecca
    54. Western marsh harrier Circus aeruginosus
    55. Common skylark Alauda arvensis
    56. Northern shoveler Spatula clypeata
    57. European stonechat Saxicola rubicola
    58. Goosander Mergus merganser
    59. European golden plover Pluvialis apricaria
    60. Gadwall Anas strepera
    61. Meadow pipit Anthus pratensis
