What's the situation with this species in the UK and Europe, this place seems to be the only holder according to zootierliste. Are they common in private hands?

I believe zootierliste maybe wrong, but till I have it confirmed that the other place still has the breeding pair I will not get it added! They are about but in very low numbers and have never been that common,in fact I didn't see my first one until about 2001!

I failed to see either the Ashy-faced or the Tropical Screech Owl but they are still at Muncaster just didn't see them, any other species they keep that I have already seen is also still at the place, also worth noting that the European Pygmy Owl is no longer in the collection, but is still labelled on the aviary it was in!

A note for Cotswold falconry centre: a couple of enclosures are being renovated, so the African goshawk are currently off-show. Work would ideally be completed within a matter of weeks, but staff couldn't give a date, saying it might well be a matter of months.

The sign on the Pygmy Owl enclosure hadn't been removed as it had died just days before due to an illness they had no idea about.

Does anyone else know of what other collections hold this species?

Well, it *was* listed on ZTL for Weyhill until recently, but someone has deleted the listing entirely - not even moving it into former holdings. So I am not sure if that is a current holding, a former holding or was never held.

I'm pretty sure I have heard tell of individuals floating around in private hands, so they might well pop up *somewhere* which is neglected and seldom-visited by Zoochatters.

Did you get any photographs of the Rufous-legged Owl? It would be interesting to learn whether this listing is, in fact, correct - a lot of the so-called Rufous-legged Owls on display in Europe are in fact Chaco Owls, as the latter taxon used to be classed as a subspecies of the former and some collections have not kept up with the taxonomy.

You've counted Northern White-faced Scops twice; otherwise you are fine.

Sorry no photo. I don't know whether there may one on the zoo's website though.
