    and here's another one:

I was at Sepilok (in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo) for one day - two nights. Sepilok was basically added to the trip for the chance to look for tarsier and slow loris at night. It's a difficult place to bird because for most of the day there is little activity, so there's not a lot on the list. But we were mostly there for spotlighting - and that is always hit and miss (...in this case almost entirely miss).

    101) Javan mynah Acridotheres javanicus
    102) Asian pied fantail Rhipidura javanica

I clearly cannot count, Coke's hartebeest should be mammal species number 75, it looks like I will easily break my record of 81 (85 according to G&G...) mammal species in one year.

Where were these species seen? (I'm specifically most interested in the Purple-crowned Lorikeet).

Galah to Silvereye were seen at Wungong Dam, the rest were all at Dryandra Woodlands. Four shinglebacks were seen, two roadkills in Dryandra, a live one on the road out of Dryandra to Narrogin, and the last on the Brookton Highway (also live).

The Purplecrowns were a pain. I could hear lots of lorikeets calling in the tops of flowering gums but couldn't see a damn thing until they flew off at breakneck speed, making it impossible to confirm their identity (although there really wasn't too much else they could be). Eventually I found some in the tops of some trees 100 metres away and was able to see their heads well enough to confirm what they were.

That's interesting, thanks for the details.
I've still not got Purple-crowned on my list.

Bah, all you people and your... birds. And mammals.

I'm having a very slow October - plenty of good birds about but all at just too far a distance to get to easily.

So far no new species at all for October, though I have advanced the UK-only list to the tune of one rather nice Glossy Ibis at Idle Valley (UK total now 202). Will be trying for a mission next weekend though.
