Was it just a day trip, or did you stay in the park overnight? Although I saw the gerenuk I missed the fringe-eareds when I was there. I also dipped on the White-headed Mousebirds (and the Golden-breasts and Vulturines). I found it top be a nice park, quite extensive although the wildlife was scattered and very shy.

I must get back to writing up my Tanzanian trip!

    :p

It was a weekend trip, I spent Friday night in the west Usambara's and spent the Saturday afternoon and Sunday from 8 to 4 in the park. I slept in Same, close to the main gate, sleeping inside the park is way above my budget :p.

I liked Mkomazi as well, it was way larger than I thought it would be, as on a Tanzanian map it looks rather small, but it is larger than most Dutch provinces :p. I saw the starlings and guineafowl in the northern central part of the park, where they were both common, this area was much drier than the western part as well. The rains had just started in parts of the park, so the mammals were pretty much concentrated on the western plains, the more east we went the less animals we saw, though dikdik and kudu numbers increased ;)

I stayed in the park at Babu's Camp, but as you said - very expensive. Spent most of our time in the Western end but large tracts of it had been burnt out and there wasn't an awful lot to see. But I think we may have been the only people in the park that day too.

Following many months of pysio after a car accident I have finally managed a relatively short drive for a life tick.

    222.Dusky Thrush

I don't think ill get many more in the UK this year unless something exceptional is found. Even if it is I think that I have to limit myself to a two hour drive.

Went out diving yesterday to a couple of locations that are available only for a couple of weeks each year when the monsoonal swells change direction. Saw a number of fish species I haven't seen at the other locations, most of which were lifers. And later, while snorkelling, I was chased by a row of dots. I can't identify the row of dots to species (or even family level) but as it's definitely different to everything else I've seen I'm counting it in the Invert list.

    Fish
    301. Humpback Unicornfish
    302. Collare Butterflyfish

    303. Bluespotted Razorfish
    304. Exquisite Wrasse
    305. Cloud Wrasse

    135) House crow, Corvus splendens

Oddly enough, found in a flowerbed outside of a Dick's Sporting Goods. I giggled at the irony.

Numerous sign of either Townsend's or Coastal Moles in Washington.

Birds: The same ones I always see in Alaska with the addition of Turkey Vultures, Cedar Waxwings, Horned Larks, and American Crows while touring the PNW.
