I've checked and double checked my list this time to make sure that I don't make a tired mistake and call something a passerine that isn't :p (thanks for editing that by the way Chlidonias).

The long, slow grind of trying to catch Vision starts to gather pace, even as I briefly lose ground following their (his? Her?) visit to Walsrode.

    49. Peking robin - Leiothrix lutea
    50. Black bulbul - Hypsipetes leucocephalus

I'd like an adjudication on the last one. I wrote it down as 'white-faced bulbul' from the sign at the zoo, without taking the scientific name. On looking at Wikipedia I'm convinced I saw a white-headed bulbul but ZTL says there are none in Europe, let alone Beauval. I am 99% sure it was a white-headed bulbul, and my doubt comes only from the slightly different name and the indication that ZTL might be out of date.

@CGSwans are you sure it wasn't the white-headed morph of Black bulbul, Hypsipetes leucocephalus, that you saw? They also have a similar white head and are listed on zootierliste for Beauval.

There are some striking differences between the two, however, and if you did see thomsoni I suppose Beauval has gotten hold of a new interesting species! I definitely wouldn't put it past them. :D

Just looked at a photo and yes, it was a black bulbul. The sign was very confusing, then. Thanks!

(Chlidonias, could you make the appropriate edit?)

A visit to the Veldhoven Zoo in the Netherlands brought me 6 new species for the 2017 Challenge ( maybe even 1 more ) :

    71) Great tit ( Parus major ) ( see Great tit | ZooChat )
    72) Common raven ( Corvus corax ) ( see Common raven | ZooChat )
    73) Song thrush ( Turdus philomelos ) ( see Song thrush | ZooChat )
    74) Red-billed quelea ( Quelea quelea ) ( see Red-billed quelea's | ZooChat )
    75) Crested mynah ( Acridotheres cristatellus ) ( see Crested mynah | ZooChat )
    76) White-shouldered starling ( Sturnus sinensis ) ( see White-shouldered starling | ZooChat )

Further I saw an African glossy starling ( see African glossy starling ID | ZooChat ) which I still have to identify and I'm quite sure it's another speciesas the ( still ) unidentified glossy starling I saw at the Olmense Zoo a few weeks ago.

I changed the name of #50 but left everything else untouched (so that Vision's reply makes sense).

Honestly, my previous post was a mess :p the quote in this one is correct, though. Sadly, this marks the end of my New York trip so this is probably my last addition for a while.
