Statement released by the park this afternoon:

    BOB TROLLOPE 1963 - 2014
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the recent passing of Keeper Bob Trollope.
Bob was very much part of the Longleat family; his dedication to those in his care and especially to his beloved Lions was recognised and respected by everyone.
People who have never even met Bob feel like friends through the knowledge and humour he shared on the TV series Animal Park.
He was a true Star and our very own celebrity.
We have lost a kind and gentle man who knew just when and how to be tough and yet could always be relied on to show compassion to both humans and to all of his animals.
Our thoughts and condolences go to Bob’s wife Sue and to his family, who like us have memories of a big man with a big heart.
We have lost a truly wonderful person, an amazing colleague and a very dear friend.

Rumor on the grapevine is that he had a brain tumor - but obviously unconfirmed. Condolences to all who knew him

RIP Bob Trollope. What a nasty shock to find this thread. Mr Trollope always came across on "Animal Park" as being very pleasant.
