A couple weeks back I asked the members of zoochat to vote on 5 threads that they thought were some of the best from 2017. The turnout was about what I expected; we received 15 voters and 45 submissions. This happened with each voter casting three threads they thought deserved to make it here. The Message voting has been tallied, and here are your candidates.

Like A Rhinestone Cowboy: FunkyGibbon in Europe: By @FunkyGibbon
FunkyGibbon returns to his home country in this exciting travel thread. He leaves China and heads back to the UK. But it doesn't stop there, he also goes on extensive tours through zoos all across the European landscape. Of course there's some side humor sprinkled in along the way. And who doesn't like the one or two sentence long beer reviews! However, he never seemed to finish writing the final leg of the trip, perhaps winning this will get him the motivation he needs to finish it.

Ungulate Taxonomy Revised: The Reasons of splits of G&G: By @lintworm
Ungulate Taxonomy is complicated. A species that is recognized as one are often classified as two different species. In this brilliant thread, lintworm visits Africa a goes on a trek to find evidence for possible spits of species according to G&G. Antelope from all over the continent are covered in depth to see if G&G's support is correct. He's already covered dozens of ungulates and is most certainly not done yet.

How to Found a Zoo: By @Batto
A thread no one could have saw coming. In this thread Batto accomplishes a zoo nerds dream of opening and operating his own zoological facility. He takes on a step by step process on how he opened "Welt der Gifte," his facility dedicated to toxic creatures and materials of the world. Its a truly inspirational thread that very few could write. As of late, its used as a news thread for the place. Batto keeps us all informed on new arrivals, exhibits and funny stories from visitor interactions. I hope to visit as soon as possible.

The Never Ending Story: By @Zoofan15
Unlike the other threads, the never ending story has next to nothing too with zoo or animals. Instead, its a simple story that never ends (Hence the title). A bunch of randomness ensues as one keeps reading. The catch is were one has to add on to the sentence that the previous poster typed. There's some pretty funny stuff in here, so even if its not that zoo related, its still worth the read.

CGSwans Flies North for the Winter: By @CGSwans

In this massive adventure, GCSwans leaves the isolated continent of Australia and heads up to Europe. This adds up to one of the largest documented travel threads in the history of these forums. He visits nearly 60 zoological facilities over half a dozen countries and meets up with multiple other zoochatter's along the way, including crossing over with FunkyGibbon in his European travels. When it was all done, he began to award the golden swans, but never got around to completing the awards. Will winning this competition give him the spirit to finish It?

I encourage everyone to vote. The winner will be revealed on Midnight December 31 to ring in the new year. However, voting will close at 10:30PM (Based on PST).

    Shoutout to all the members who voted: @Charlie Simmomds , @TheWalrus , @lintworm , @savethelephant , @LaughingDove , @animal_expert01 , @Arizona Docent , @natel12 , @birdsandbats , @pipaluk , @TeaLovingDave , @ShonenJake13 , @Hix , @Mr. Zootycoon & @vogelcommando

I’m not completely sure how this poll system works, so can you all see the current poll votes?

I've just realised that all votes are private! I'm not bothered either way but just thought I'd mention it.

It makes the How Old/Sex of ZooChatters poll extremely redundant now...;)

Does that mean CGSwans Flies North for the Winter is the winner?

Voting doesn’t wrap until tonight at midnight. Sorry for any confusion. But if we don’t get any more votes it looks like we have a clear winner.

I think so, although for some, the voting is still on.

EDIT: According to the vote screen, voting was closed yesterday.

So what happens when a thread does win? Do you post on that thread saying "This thread has won the official ZooChat Thread of the Year 2017 competition."?

5 hours remain to vote! If for some reason you can't vote in the poll, just post your vote on this thread and I will count it.
